There's A New Sheriff In Town

BBO's Young Gunz awed the room with uncanny stick.

A new gunslinger rode into the gambling Mecca of the world, Las Vegas this weekend and set the town afire with a simple game plan, and uncanny stick control. His name - Young Gunz. He hails from the up and coming BBO League out of NYC. Gunz impressed many with what has been dubbed from the Vegas Tourney as "Sick Stick." He used his sick stick to roll through the tourney never seriously challenged in any of his games, rolling to a 63-24 win over GT Philly's Sandman in the Mega Bowl Championship Game.

Gunz name is not new to the community however. We first heard of him after he dominated several east coast tourneys. Although none of these tourneys were considered major MWS events, many of the ballers in attendance returned with raved reviews regarding Young Gunz game. Several members from the BMBT, BXML, NYML in addition to his own crew the BBO raved about the coming of a new gunslinger to the Madden Community. Well he has arrived and in grand style.

Many were surprised to see the Gunnerz, as he is sometimes referred to, have such a basic scheme, yet be so successful. The Gunnerz rode into the 128 baller single elimination portion of the tourney on Sunday with a #1 seed and a +53 point differential. By midway through the tourney, the Gunnerz game plan had become the talk of the room. You could hear several ballers in different conversations saying, "This guy is whupping everyone with one defense....the whip man!" While that may not have been the only defense that the Gunnerz used, it sure was the most popular one. And he used it effectively.

Although much of the talk about the Gunz referred to his defensive play, his offense is what keyed many of his victories. Ballers were able to put points on the Young Gunz, but they had problems stopping his potent offense. Which by the way was relatively simple also in scheme. But the Gunz sick stick is what allowed him to take a simple play, ala drag route across the middle, and break it for 30-40 yards. Combined with wicked defensive stick, and The Gunz took home the 10K and the respect and admiration of the rest of the Mega Bowl Field.

After defeating HOVA in the final, Gunz was set to take on GT Philly's Ace Sandman. Sandman breezed through the tourney field setting up what appeared to be on paper, one of the best matchups of the weekend. That highly anticipated matchup turned out to be a nightmare for Sandman, as the Gunz game came ashore and eroded any hopes Sandman may have held for taking home the mega scrilla.

Sandman arrived in the championship game fresh off his victory over KOTC Mo Wash. But as Curly Top predicted in a previous post on the Madden Forum, Sandman annihilated the tourney field with one play. The Shotgun 4 Wide Corner Threat seemed to be too much for the rest of the Mega Bowl field to handle. Using the Steelers and placing Plexico Burress in the slot, Sandman would use Stewarts mobility and Burress big play leaping talents to make big scoring plays. However this strategy would not be effective on the 19 year Madden prodigy from the big apple.

Gunz unleashed the artillery on Sandman sending pressure off the left side, forcing Sandman to have to get rid of the ball before he wanted to. And although he was successful early, it was only a matter of time as Gametime Philly's Hustleman predicted, before the Gunnerz would start picking the streak route to Burress. Gunz strategically moved the taller Bobby Taylor from corner to the weak safety to match up with the tall and lanky Burress. The move paid huge dividends for when Sandman went to Burress on his third drive trailing 21-14, Gunz picked him off to swing the momentum of the game.

Gunz scored again to go up 28-14. On Sandman's next drive, he went to Plexico again, only to have Burress injured on the play. The room erupted after the injury knowing that Sandman would have to make a major adjustment in his gameplan since he was relying so heavily on the streak route to Burress. On that same drive, Sandman looked out of sync and tentative after losing his security blanket in Burress.

Gunz seized the moment and blew the game open with another pick and score and before you knew it, the game was getting out of reach for Sandman, and it was only the second quarter. From that point the game was never in the balance, and the Gunnerz cruise to a lopsided 63-24 victory.

After the game the modest and soft spoken Gunz was thankful to his crew for supporting him. There was a pride that hovered over the room. An east coast pride that had a distinct aurora to it. For after hearing about the Lou Tillery's, Trapjaws, and Dis Dru's of the south, the camp from the north east finally put it down and took some mega cheddar.

Could this mean there is a new man to beat in the MWS? It could very be. For with the emergence of the Gunz, Sandman and KOTC, the playing field has leveled out from the days of complete dominance by L.T., Trapjaw, and Candyman. Because there is a new sheriff in town....and his name is Young Gunz.
